In a phone interview, Jamie Iannone stated that the e-commerce site aspires to be the marketplace for Gen-Z and millennials.
The big e-commerce platforms have yet to embrace cryptocurrency. Almost no one accepts digital currency as payment.
But it's reasonable to say that whoever is the first to do so will become a topic of discussion in the crypto community.
EBay, which aspires to be the marketplace for Gen-Z and millennials, is investigating the idea of accepting bitcoins as a form of payment. According to TheStreet, the company's CEO, Jamie Iannone, an announcement could be made on March 10 during its investor day.
"We're just finishing off our shift to manage payments, and we're now directly managing $85 billion of volume on our platform," Iannone told TheStreet. "This allows us to introduce new payment methods."
"We accessed Google Pay and Apple Pay. We have a partnership with Afterpay in Australia, which is a platform that appeals to Gen Z and is a marketplace purchase now pay later platform "Iannone went on.
"As a result, we are continuing to assess additional modes of payment that we should accept on the site. On the platform, we do not yet accept cryptocurrency."
Iannone argues that Gen-Z is a top priority for his platform. For example, he outlines eBay's several activities aimed at attracting today's and tomorrow's consumers. eBay is concentrating its efforts on transactions involving sneakers, one of its fastest-growing product categories.

With sneakers, "we're appealing to the younger generation, where they're coming in selling their sneakers, becoming a collectible collector on the platform, and they're building new marketing capabilities," Iannone argued.
