The reaction was predictably split. When news broke of the Knicks hiring Tom Thibodeau to a five-year contract, Twitter exploded with hot takes from fans, reporters and media personalities. The memes and GIFs were flying. Some loved it, some hated it, others merely made fun of it.

A few accounts poked fun at the idea Thibodeau will be the Knicks’ 13th coach since 2001. Others predicted greatness for RJ Barrett and Mitchell Robinson playing for the defensive-minded Thibodeau, while a few users joked about the notoriously demanding Thibodeau flopping in New York and working his players too hard.

Heat wing Jae Crowder quote-tweeted a post of him and Thibodeau getting into it and in all-caps wrote: “Congrats Tibs on the new coaching job. Can’t wait to have these battles with you again” with two devil head emojis at the end of the tweet. The taped incident between the two took place in 2014, when the 62-year-old Thibodeau was head coach of the Timberwolves and Crowder was a member of the Heat.

“F–k you! Let’s go to the back then you motherf—-r,” Thibodeau could apparently be seen saying.
