Tom Brady on Sunday mourned the death of his former Patriots teammate Reche Caldwell, who was shot and killed the night before in Tampa, Fla., according to reports.
Caldwell was 41.
“All love RIP,” Brady wrote on his Instagram story, alongside a photo of the two celebrating together in 2006.
Bill Belichick released a statement through the Patriots, sending his condolences to the Caldwell family.
“He is remembered for his solid contributions to our team,” Belichick said.
Caldwell was New England’s leading receiver during his lone season with Brady and the Patriots. He had 61 receptions for 760 yards and four touchdowns, but was out of the league two years later after failing to catch on with the Rams.
The details surrounding Caldwell’s death are still being investigated. It initially was reported that Caldwell was killed during an attempted robbery, however, local police told TMZ that “this does not appear to be a random act.”
In January, Caldwell pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to commit health fraud in a case involving several former NFL players. Caldwell was scheduled to be sentenced this month and faced up to 10 years in prison.
