Daddy’s girls! With four No. 1 singles under his belt and over a dozen songs that have made the Billboard top 10, Ludacris doesn’t need to impress anyone these days. But the multi-platinum artist still wants to keep his four daughters — Karma, 20, Cai, 7, Cadence, 6, and Chance, 2 months — on his good side. The Grammy winner sat down with Us Weekly and exclusively shared the hardest part of being a girl dad.

“The worst part is when they start crying,” he admitted. “It’s kind of bittersweet. They cry and they fall into my arms and they’re asking me for stuff. I don’t know how to say no, that’s the worst part.”

His advice for other girl dads is simple: “Just be patient and make sure you work out a lot to balance the testosterone levels in your household.”

As for the best part of being a dad to his girls, the Karma’s World creator said he’s “going to be well taken care of when I’m a very old man because the girls are going to take care of me.”

“I have this platform, which is for kids for music enrichment, and it’s a platform that’s educating kids and it’s called KidNation. So we partnered with this company [Moose Toys] that my kids absolutely love and we made an original song called ‘Puppy Love,’” he shared with Us. “It’s the idea and inspiration behind grooming and being able to take special care and responsibility of your puppy and understanding that it’s underneath is what counts. I’m all about educating the new generation, because when you have kids, that’s really what your life becomes dedicated to is making the world a better place.”

d30 and thriving! Hannah Berner is embracing her “fine lines” and has no qualms about that. Watch the Summer House alum show Us Weekly her full nighttime skincare routine in the latest episode of “Beauty Sleep” above and see how the reality star combats dry skin, breakouts and more.

Makeover Remover of the Stars
“I think Kim Kardashian, back in the day, said that Neutrogena Makeup Remover was her favorite,” she recalled. “I may not look like I have anything on my face, but I live in New York City so who knows what could be in my pores. So, we take Neutrogena and wipe it down. We the wipe off the negative toxins.”

Age is Just a Number
“I am going to bed two hours later than anticipated because I accidentally opened the TikTok app which you can go on for minimum an hour at a time,” the stand-up comedian told Us. “I just turned 30. I’m not scared of fine lines. I’m embracing fine lines. What? Men aren’t going to notice you once you have too many fine lines? That sounds incredibly peaceful. I also have good genetics, my grandma has aged very gracefully, so I’m just hoping for that.”

Soaking up that Vitamin C
“Someone told me, you start with the lightest thing and go heavier. This is Ole Henriksen’s Truth Serum, it’s collagen-boosted with true C complex. Those things sound important,” Berner noted. “I feel like it smells like orange juice, which also reminds me of drinking a screwdriver, which reminds me of a bad night. But anyway, I feel like collagen and vitamin C are good things to put on.”

But all our skin is different. I mean, my fiancé looks gorgeous and he’s 45 and literally wipes his face with a dirty towel every night.”

Model-Approved
“Emily DiDonato, who’s this Maybelline model, who is also hilarious and smart and amazing has a new line called Covey,” Berner said, while applying the product. “This vitamin C serum smells amazing. Can you put too much vitamin C on your face? We’ll find out.”

Spencer Pratt is embracing every part of fatherhood — even if it means walking six miles through the San Diego Zoo. The Hills star, 38, sat down with Us Weekly and gushed over how becoming a dad has made him forget his goals of becoming rich and famous, and instead, made him realize the simple moments of parenting are the “best part of life.”

“We just got back from the OC. We stayed at the Pelican Hill Resort and then we drove to the San Diego Zoo,” the Pratt Daddy founder told Us. “I’d say fatherhood has changed me because I am literally a different person. I’m sure other people can relate, once you become a parent. If you had told me four years ago that I would be walking six miles around the zoo, just things as simple as that, and, being like, ‘Look over here it’s the koala bear.’ You just go to a new level.”

“I’m a skincare freak and I’m super hypersensitive about things being dirty. Like, I’m not down with getting in hotel pools. It’s just not my thing. I’m down with tanning next to them, having a nice tropical drink,” he shared. “But here I am in the hotel pool with Gunner, with goggles on, everybody just peeing all around me, just everyone’s pee on me. I say, ‘Oh, my God, I am really a dad.’”

When Pratt rose to reality star fame on MTV’s The Hills, which premiered in 2006, he explained that his goals were different than they are now.

“I had goals of trying to be Kim K-level rich and famous, but then, thankfully, now being a dad, just the simple moments of being grounded as a parent are so powerful,” he noted, referring to Kim Kardashian. “Not saying I wouldn’t love being Kim K-rich and famous, but just being able to do basic things like sitting there this morning at 6:45 AM in the hotel cafe sharing the hot cocoa and having Gunner telling me that it’s really hot … and this morning, I was sitting in a stranger’s pee, things you do for your children.”

“I actually really believe we’re helping the world,” he explained. “Not to mention, connecting the hummingbirds to people’s lives. I feel like we’re going to be able to push this out to more people that get to feel hummingbird energy, which I’m addicted to and is so powerful. So, hummingbirds will also help with that retrograde. This is a real healing mission with Uber Eats and I feel very positive about it.”

Her new normal. Jana Kramer and Mike Caussin split in April after nearly six years of marriage and the country music star, 37, is still trying to perfect coparenting their two kids — Jolie, 5, and Jace, 2.

“It’s very hard. I have no problem saying, like, the other day, I didn’t do it perfectly. I was upset and I was like, ‘I didn’t want this. I didn’t ask for this,’” the One Tree Hill alum recalled exclusively to Us Weekly. “My kids [were] crying for him. And I called, and let them obviously FaceTime, but I also was just like, ‘This is just so not fair,’ you know? Then I have to own it and be like, ‘I’m sorry, this is a hard situation.’”

While the “Voices” singer told Us that “the kids are great” amid the split, they also have good and bad days.

“Jolie is doing amazing in kindergarten. Jace is slowly getting better with the transition. Transition days are tough, but that’s to be expected,” she explained. “It’s hard, but whenever he says call daddy, [I do]. Mike and I have a good relationship and we’re doing really well at co-parenting.”

Putting aside her emotions for the kids can be tough at times.

“I never wanted it to be in this situation, it’s important to know that we’re better off and to own when frustrations do come up,” she noted. “It is hard, but the kids deserve us to be happy around each other because that’s what they deserve. So I just kind of bite my lip a lot.”

Kramer wants her new single, “Voices,” to reflect where she’s currently at in her life.

Fresh off the boat and onto the stage! Captain Sandy Yawn is setting sail into a new adventure, but this one won’t be on the water. The Below Deck Mediterranean star is gearing up for her Lead-Her-Ship Tour, which will include musical guests and the Bravo star’s personal stories of how she navigated life before fame.

“I want to use this platform to inspire others,” she told Us. “Thanks to Bravo, we have reached so many Americans. I didn’t seek the maritime industry. I fell into it. So many people now are aware of it. I wish Bravo was out and this show was out when I was a kid, because I think I would have discovered this a lot sooner and had a lot less pain in my life because I took a different path. And that’s really what it’s about and it’s also talking about music.”

The motivational speaker will also share her love of music and her side hustle — DJ’ing.

I don’t care where you go in the world, you play a song, everyone starts singing it in the same language,” Yawn noted. “We’re connected through music. And that’s really what I want to teach people. For Americans, it’s also saying, ‘Hey, get a passport.’ Obviously, the pandemic stopped a lot of the travel, but [I want to] encourage people to go travel and to learn other cultures because if it wasn’t for the maritime industry, I would never have had this journey in life and learned about other cultures. I love that our show actually puts that out there.”

While she’ll be off the boat for the four-month tour, Yawn doesn’t have plans to hang up her Captain’s hat anytime soon.

The pressure to bounce back after baby felt very real for Scheana Shay. The Vanderpump Rules star, 36, who welcomed daughter Summer with fiancé Brock Davies in April, sat down with Us Weekly to share the ups and downs that have come with being a new mom.

Just days after Summer was born, the Bravo star began filming season 9 of the reality series, which premieres on Tuesday, September 28.

“In the beginning of the season, you’ll see a lot of that story play out,” Shay explained when asked if she felt pressured to get back in shape after giving birth. “I know that you’re never supposed to compare yourself to others, but it was very difficult for me and kind of impossible, when I have another friend who just had a baby and [they] bounce back immediately. She’s strutting around in a string bikini and I’m trying to cover up, but still look cute.”

Scheana Shay Rob Latour/Shutterstock

Shay is seemingly referring to her costar Lala Kent, who welcomed daughter Ocean with her fiancé, Randall Emmett, in March.

“We have all these theme parties and I’m, like, 10 days postpartum,” the “One More Time” singer explained. “So it was definitely a challenge for me, but by the end of the season, you will see me in a crop top. I’ll say that.”

Despite any of the hardships that have come with her new role, Shay focuses on the best parts — like how she “falls more in love” with Davies, 31, every day.

“I am sure he’s changed more diapers than I have,” she joked. “I think it’s just brought us even closer together and just seeing how amazing he is with her and just how hands-on he’s been from day one, when I was in the hospital. [I wasn’t] capable of even holding her without a nurse watching me because I got so sick after, and he has just stepped up and has been there the entire time.”

Shay told Us that Summer’s delivery was “really scary” for her because of her preeclampsia, a pregnancy condition characterized by high blood pressure, and revealed that they would consider an alternative for baby No. 2.

“I’ll be turning my eggs into embryos and considering a surrogate, considering adopting or considering taking our chances,” she explained.

A modern family! Heather Rae Young is the proud “bonus mom” to her fiancé Tarek El Moussa and his ex-wife Christina Haack’s two kids — Taylor, 10, and Brayden, 6. The Selling Sunset star, 34, recently sat down with Us Weekly and shared why it’s important for her and the family to maintain a relationship with Haack’s ex-husband, Ant Anstead.

Anstead, 42, and Haack, 38, who finalized their divorce in June 2020, share custody of their 2-year-old son, Hudson.

“Taylor and Brayden, they have a brother and Hudson’s their brother, so we want to make sure that we know Hudson and Ant as well and that the kids get to grow up together,” she told Us, while promoting her partnership with PETA. “It’s been nice having a friendly relationship and the most important thing is the kids. We all remember that that’s the most important thing to us and the kids’ health and happiness is number one to all of us.”

“We did go to an event and they were there. I would love [to double date], I think she’s amazing,” she told Us.

As for whether the new couple are happy, she replied: “From what I see, yes.”

When it comes to coparenting, Young emphasized how important it is for the entire family to put the children first.

So, we just focus on the kids at ours.”

Haack and El Moussa split in 2016. Young and El Moussa started dating in July 2019 and got engaged on their first anniversary.

It’s been 60 years since Walt Disney released The Parent Trap, starring Hayley Mills — and Hayley Mills — but the iconic actress, 75, who played the dual role of twins Sharon and Susan, remembers it like it was yesterday.

In the British native’s new memoir Forever Young, she recalls getting her first period while shooting the classic jumping-on-the-bed scene, learning how to sing for Robert and Richard Sherman’s song “Let’s Get Together” and having Walt Disney visit set numerous times while shooting the 1961 film.

“A good movie is appreciated and survives. It’s part of a lot of people’s childhoods,” the actress told Us. “That is a wonderful experience. It’s a wonderful thing for me. It’s a gift. I would go so far as to say it’s a privilege when people say, ‘You are part of my childhood.’ I can’t think of anything better. It’s my childhood too. We share something.”

Hayley Mills David Fisher/Shutterstock

She went on to explain why she thinks the film is still commemorated by fans, young and old, today, six decades after it was first released.

“I think that the girls meeting their twin is a fascinating thought — to find somebody who looks just like you. I would love to have had a twin. I think that it was handled so very, very well. The fact that the kids, the girls were so instrumental in the parents’ lives, looking at what they were doing and the decisions that they’d made and deciding, ‘That’s not good,’ or ‘That’s not right,’” she explained. “Then, ‘I’m going to change it and find a way to do it.’ And running rings around lots of the adults. It’s an irresistible idea for children.”

Mills told Us that she related to both twins — Sharon and Susan — but admitted Susan’s life was “a bit more fun.”

Hayley Mills in ‘The Parent Trap.’ Moviestore/Shutterstock

“Sharon was a little bit more sedate. She’s got a bit more of the English life, English attitudes and English clothes,” she noted. “Susan was a girl more like me on the farm, so I could really identify with both of them. They were lovely parts to play.”

The Parent Trap was Mills’ second film in a series of six that she acted in for Disney. After achieving fame at a young age, she also experienced darker times in Hollywood, or as it was referred to then: Tinseltown.

Hayley Mills and Maureen O’hara in ‘The Parent Trap.’ Moviestore/Shutterstock

“We all face the same difficulties and, I wanted to share that,” she explained when asked about her eating disorders, one of which was a short-lived white wine and hard-boiled eggs only diet. “I certainly hope it didn’t look as if I was encouraging people to go on the white wine diet. I think we’re all trying to make sense of our childhood. Aren’t we? The child is still within us, however old, however successful we are, the child is still there. The experiences that child had is still influencing us. Therapy is much more widely used and accepted [now], it’s not shameful to go to therapy. Back then, in the fifties and sixties, generations of people just had to bumble along, muddle through and transfer everything out and deal with the legacy of the child.”

In Forever Young, Mills revealed that she “half-heartedly” tried to “end it all” at one point in her teenage years.

Grand Central Publishing

“If you get to the point where you’re saying, ‘I’m just going to end it all and just drive, keep going straight, hit, whatever I hit.’ There’ve been years of struggling and trying to cope with it,” she said. “Finally, when I was doing this film and I thought I wasn’t any good in it and I thought when they turned the camera on me and they were setting my up my closeup, that there was no film in the camera. I was getting really very screwed up. So, I thought, you know, it’s good for people to know that this is what happened.”

Mills is often referred to as “Disney’s Daughter” as she had a personal relationship with the man himself after he cast her in her first Disney film, Pollyanna.

“He was very warm. He was very genuine, and he adored what he did, he loved making films. He loved Disneyland. He was a good human being. He was a good man,” Mills told Us. “This is another thing I’ve realized during writing the book, how marvelous, how lucky [I was] to have known Walt Disney, because it was his studio. It wasn’t just put there by a committee.”

On the best advice she learned from the legend himself, she said: “I said something to him, probably a little bit obvious, like, ‘Do all your films have a message?’ And Walt said, ‘I want to show people the best of themselves.’ How could you not love somebody who says that was his driving force? That was what motivated him. He was a force of good in the world.”

It’s not all about roses and mansions. Chris and Peyton Lambton just celebrated nine years of marriage and the OG Bachelor Nation couple shared all their secrets on how to succeed post-show. Watch the exclusive video above to hear what they had to say!

The couple, who recently dropped a new home collection with HSN, Chris and Peyton by Design, revealed to Us how they survived the aftermath of the show.

“It’s a little different for us because we didn’t meet on the show. It was a bit more organic how we met,” Peyton, 38, explained. “The fact that we were on the show was secondary.”

Chris, 43, added: “But it helped that we were both on the show because then we had that commonality, and we didn’t have to like quiz each other on ‘What was the show like?’”

Courtesy of Chris and Peyton Lambton

The couple, who were on season 6 of Bachelorette with lead Ali Fedotowsky and season 10 of Bachelor with lead Andy Baldwin, met through a mutual friend — Jesse Beck— who was on Chris’ season of Bachelor and Peyton’s season of Bachelor Pad.

When it comes to making their romance last, Chris relies on two important factors.

“Communication and laughter. I make her laugh on a daily basis. That’s my goal. Even if she’s mad at me, I try to just tickle her or make her laugh and it makes everything easier and better,” he explained. “Especially when you start throwing kids and a dog in the picture, life can be stressful. She’s got multiple jobs and I’ve got a couple of different jobs, so, it’s good to laugh. At the end of the night, we talk about our day and talk about what the next day is, so we are on the same page.”

For present-day Bachelor Nation couples, Peyton thinks post-show life is “100 percent” harder.

“We didn’t have social media. It was just coming on the scene. And I know for our seasons, we weren’t allowed to be on social media until the show had finished airing,” she noted. “Now, it’s like a part of it. And these contestants come off of the show with hundreds of thousands of followers and this instant fame. Social media has changed the game for sure.”

As for whether they would have stayed off social media in today’s post-Bachelor world, they admitted the decision can be tricky.

“It’s hard because a lot of post Bachelor, Bachelorette people rely on it for income,” Chris told Us. “It’s kind of like the double-edged sword where you don’t want to stay off it because you don’t want people saying what’s wrong with your relationship.”

“Maybe it’s just a matter of like turning off your DMs or turning off your comments. Drown out some of those outside voices,” Peyton advised. “We’ve seen just how vicious people can be on social media, and unfortunately, I don’t see that stopping anytime soon. Maybe just find a way to silence the unwanted comments.”

When the Cape Cod residents aren’t keeping up with the latest season of Bachelor in Paradise, they’ve got their hands full with their kids — Lyla, 4, and Hayes, 2 and they’re also are excited for people to get their hands on their new HSN line.

“Our goal was to make it something that’s comfortable, functional and that isn’t going to stress anybody out when they’re trying to get their backyard ready to use,” Peyton noted.

HSN

“We wanted everything to be low maintenance. Here in Cape Cod, with the salt air, it really damages your products,” the Clipped host said. “We wanted products that not only are beautiful and functional, but also are long lasting. When you make an investment it’ll last for years, not months.”

As for their favorite pieces in the line, Peyton told Us: “My favorite item is the lanterns because there’s so many things you can do with lanterns — the front porch, the back porch, you can bring them in for the holidays as table decor, and they have the remote-controlled LED candles inside.”

“I love the umbrella. We designed it that way. It was big. It’s almost nine-feet in diameter. I can stand underneath the umbrella and it’s not going to like knock me out,” he said. “It’s also good because the umbrella has LED lights on the inside and the top is a little solar panel. So it charges during the day.”

He wants her and her “Beautiful Soul,” but Jesse McCartney will not be serenading his fiancée, Katie Peterson, with his hit 2004 song at their upcoming fall nuptials.

“I think I’m going to get up and play. I don’t know what, but it will not be ‘Beautiful Soul.’ It will probably be something that I’ve written or something that I’ve yet to write,” he told Us Weekly exclusively. “I’m going to get up and probably play with some of my band. A lot of the guys from my band are coming to the wedding, so it’ll be nice. We can get up there and interrupt the wedding band for a couple songs. If we haven’t had too much wine at that point.”

The singer, who recently dropped a new single called, “Kiss the World Goodbye,” explained why he and Peterson’s big day is not the right venue for his early 2000’s pop song.

Jesse McCartney and Katie Peterson Matt Baron/Shutterstock

“In the right setting, it’s great. Don’t get me wrong. I love playing ‘Beautiful Soul’ for the fans and on tour, but it might be a little cheesy at my wedding,” he teased. “It’s one of those songs that shaped my career. And, of course, it’s a staple song on the set list. We play it every tour and I’ll be playing at this tour. I’m touring again in November and December of this year. So, it’ll be somewhere on the set list.”

Peterson and McCartney had to push their wedding date back due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but they’re looking forward to finally getting the special day underway.

“I don’t know if it’s gotten bigger, but it’s gotten more expensive,” he admitted. “It was a bummer because we got engaged in the end of 2019 and were looking at venues by the beginning of 2020, and we were thinking we’d be married by October of 2020. And then that all, of course, got put on hold. And it was sad too, because the first venue that we saw, we fell in love with, and we were like, ‘This is our place, this is our spot.’ Everything just kinda kept getting pushed, but it didn’t get any bigger. It’ll roughly be, like, 150ish [people], we just finished picking out invitations. I just found a tuxedo, we’re putting all the puzzle pieces together. It’s a ton of work. You don’t realize it until you’re doing it, how much work it is.”

While planning the wedding has been a big task, he and Peterson haven’t had any bridezilla or groomzilla moments — yet.

“To be honest, it’s been pretty laid back. I mean, I’m sure, there’s still time. We still have three months for one of us to fall off the rails, but so far we’ve been really good and we have very similar tastes, so it’s not like we really fight or argue about any of the visual or production stuff,” he shared. “I know what my lane is. I’m not going to be in there saying, ‘Hey, you should do this lace with this veil.’ She put me in charge of putting together the band, which was nice … Whatever she wants, that’s just the attitude to have.”

Fans can see Peterson and McCartney together in the music video for “Kiss the World Goodbye,” and they can also hear how the actress inspired his latest music in the lyrics.

“She’s certainly a big muse for this album and you can hear it lyrically. It’s too specific not to be about a certain person,” he noted. “I think the new album coming out is some of my best writing, and some of the most poignant writing. [It] really talks about what it’s like for me as an artist, growing up in the industry and what it’s like being in a relationship and being in the industry. I think [it’s] really accessible for people.”

Breakouts be gone! Dr. Sandra Lee of TLC’s series Dr. Pimple Popper shared her nighttime skincare and beauty routine with Us and most importantly, her key tips for avoiding dreaded zits! Watch the exclusive video above, the latest in Us Weekly’s Beauty Sleep series, to hear how the TLC star, 50, keeps her skin flawless.

Throw Out Your Magnifying Mirror
“I have this magnifying mirror that helps me to really look carefully to see whether I removed all of my makeup completely. But, magnifying mirrors, just as much of a help, they are [also] a hindrance because sometimes when you will look at it up close with a high magnification, you’re going to see your pores. You’re going to see more lines and wrinkles and they get you worried,” she explained. “You don’t know how many patients I have that come to my office and say, ‘Hey look, do you see this little bump right here?’ I immediately ask them, ‘Do you have a magnifying mirror at home? Throw it away because it really makes you see things that other people can’t see. That can be the start sometimes of a little BDD or body dysmorphic disorder, where you’re a little overly concerned with your skin and its appearance. Try not to focus too much on it. Try not to devote too much of your time staring at a magnifying mirror.”

The Real-Deal Cleanser
“This is my favorite thing to use — my salicylic acid cleanser by SLMD Skincare. Salicylic acid is a chemical peel acid, a beta hydroxy acid that is going to really settle down within your pores. It actually crystallizes to a small enough size to get into your pores and sort of clean them out, remove the dirt and the debris, the oil, the dead skin cells, all of that, but it is still gentle and it also helps to lighten brown spots,” she advised. “It doesn’t dry me out, even though I’m super dry. I can use this every day. When I wash my makeup off, it feels like I’m really getting off all my makeup, but it’s not drying me out too much, and that’s why I don’t always double cleanse. People who are oily, you can use this and another cleanser if you like, but for me, being very dry, this will do it for me.”

Water Temperature is Key
“I don’t use really hot water. I use lukewarm or slightly cool water. Obviously the heat of the water is going to help to get rid of makeup and dirt and things like that, but if you use a warmer water , the more dry it is, the more of that breaks on your skin and dries out your skin more,” the TV personality shared. “For somebody who is dry like me. I might use a little bit of hot water [to start], but then finish with cooler water. Also, what’s nice about cool water is it’s going to help to tighten your pores or shrink their pores a little bit temporarily. Nothing can permanently shrink your pores.”

Don’t Try This At Home
“I’m older … but I remind myself that when I get a pimple, it means that I still have my hormones. I’m still young, so to speak,” Dr. Lee told Us, while getting ready to treat her own pimple that popped up on her forehead. “As a dermatologist, I can treat it at home. So, what I usually do is take a little alcohol. I have a little low potency corticosteroid. This is what we administer to our patients when we see them in the office. If you have a big pimple, right before a big event, you can have them inject it and they will go away within 24 hours.”

But, Do Try This
“One of the things that I like to do is to use my Clear Out Mask. This is a purifying mask. I love this mask because it has salicylic acid in it. It has sulfur in it and zinc and it just is really soothing. It goes on really cool. It has this like little medicinal smell that makes you feel like it’s really doing something and it is really doing something,” she said. “It makes your skin feel so smooth afterwards. I don’t pamper myself enough and so this is a nice thing to do before you go to sleep. It really helps to relax before you get into bed.”

The dream team! U.S. Olympians are headed to Tokyo to compete on the world’s stage in just a few days, but before they show off their talents, the athletes sat down exclusively with Us Weekly to share their celebrity crushes, hidden talents and how they squash any nerves they have before a big match or competition. I understand how it is,” he said, laughing.

When Benjamin isn’t busy with practice, he enjoys a hobby he perfected during the pandemic.

“I like to sew. Over quarantine I sewed a lot with my sewing machine,” she told Us. “I made pants out of this material that I found and transformed jeans and jean jackets. It’s fun to create things and then wear them and flaunt them.”

“Leaving Rio, I knew that volleyball wasn’t going to be forever for me. With becoming a mom and knowing that as an athlete, the time span is not forever, I wanted to start playing with the idea of something that I’ve always loved,” Maclay told Us. “I baked with my grandma and she used to make cookies and she was the head cookie decorator of every family event, and I actually came across cookie decorating on YouTube and really just watched YouTube videos of how they did it and [learned] different techniques and then developed a cookie recipe that I loved, and started from there. My husband’s super into coffee. So we were like, ‘This is the perfect combination: Bakery, coffee and flowers.’ So we put it together and it’s called Flower and Flour.”

Lee Kiefer and Gerek Meinhardt, Fencing
Newlyweds Kiefer, 27, and Meinhardt, 30, got married in September 2019 and the foil fencers decided training for the Olympics wasn’t the only thing they wanted to accomplish together — both the Team USA athletes are also tackling medical school.

“It’s [been] very strange during the pandemic. We’ve been with each other, like, 24/7, because we’ll study together, eat together, train together,” Kiefer noted.

“We did a really good job of separating the competitiveness and the focus that we have and the spirit that we have —that we both want to win — from married life,” Meinhardt added. “When we get home, we still talk about fencing, but it’s super helpful.”

Cat Osterman, Softball
The Team Milk member, 38, told Us that she doesn’t suffer from too many nerves before a big game. The Olympic softball pitcher, who came out of retirement to join the Tokyo games, told Us: “We benefit from the fact that we get to the field usually about two hours early and the team has batting practice and that’s a time where I don’t have to be super focused. So, even if I’m starting that game, I can use that time to either calm down or just start to connect with teammates. So usually I use that time to be the bucket person, gathering all the balls and taking them back in. That’s kinda my calming time, just having some easy conversations, occasionally it will be with the catcher about who we’re playing.”

This can totally stand on its own,” she told Us. “In this particular story, our fearless protagonist, Jen Dickson, is in her final year of elementary school with her son Max. She agrees to be class mom one last time, [but] little does she know that she has been handpicked by the PTA president to spearhead the school’s annual fundraiser, which is notoriously the worst job you can get. She also has to look after her granddaughter three days a week, and her aging parents who seem like they’re going downhill really fast. Did I say it was funny? It’s really a funny book. You just have to take my word for it. Go on Jen’s journey.”

Rules of Civility by Amore Towles
“[This is] such a beautiful story. It starts in 1966 when a woman comes across some photos that immediately take her back to the year 1938 when she was just a 25-year-old single girl living and working in Manhattan by chance,” Gelman noted of her second pick. “She meets a man in a jazz bar who introduces her into the high society of New York. And that’s where the story takes off. The writing makes you want to live there in that time.”

The hero of the story is a guy named Don Tillman. He’s a brilliant geneticist who has Asperger’s, which is a type of mild autism that leaves him kind of clueless when it comes to social situations. Think Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory,” Laurie shared. “Don decides it’s time to find a wife, but since he has no social skills, he decides to write up a questionnaire for women to fill out, to see if they would be a good wife material for him. That alone is hysterically funny, but things get really interesting when he meets a woman named Rosie, he immediately knows she is not wife material, thanks to the questionnaire that she filled out, but he agrees to help her find her birth father.”

House on the Strand by Daphne du Maurier
“This book will forever be on my list. The House on the Strand has it all. It has romance. It has mystery, injury, time travel, heartbreak,” she said of her fourth summer read. “It’s a story of a man living in Kilmore, England, who agrees to test out a drug created by an old friend from college. The drug transports him mentally to the kill mark in the year 1300 where he can see and hear things, but he cannot interact. He gets so involved with the characters that the lines become blurred between present and past.”

This is his first book and it is a fictionalized version of what that job was like. He was her drug mule, her apologist, her punching bag, her travel companion, and about a million other things,” Laurie said. “Initially I picked it up thinking that it was going to be really, really funny. And, it is, it’s absolutely a very funny book, but it was also surprisingly poignant and touching. I didn’t see that coming at all. It beautifully balanced out the insanity that was his life while he had that job.”
