The process was easier for some than others. Rachel Bilson, for instance, recognized the fandom surrounding her and Adam Brody’s characters, Summer Roberts and Seth Cohen, respectively, long after they split. The former O.C. costars reunited at an airport in August 2019, and the Hart of Dixie alum could not let the moment go by undocumented.

“Ran into my ol buddy from jfk to lax #californiaherewecome,” Bilson captioned a selfie with Brody at the time.

The actress later apologized for calling it quits with the actor in 2006. “IM SORRY!!!!” she commented on a March 2020 Instagram post about the breakup. “He fared really well!”

Bilson even went so far as to predict that their alter-egos are still blissfully in love. “Oh, my gosh, I try to remember. I’m like, ‘What happened at the end?’ I think Seth and Summer got married,” she exclusively told Us Weekly in December 2019. “Yeah, sure, [they’re together]. Why not? You always want a happy ending.”

Other exes followed suit, keeping things professional at work after their romances ended. “During your time on Gossip Girl, Chace [Crawford], did Blake Lively and Penn Badgley’s real-life relationship and breakup cause drama amongst the cast?” Andy Cohen asked during an August 2019 episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.

“Not at all. Not in the least,” the actor replied. “Most mature people in the world.”

Some former couples had more to overcome than mere awkwardness. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson were forced to spend time together after she cheated on him with her Snow White and the Huntsman director. The experience seemed to make their dynamic stronger, though, with the twosome reuniting in June 2018 to attend a birthday party and still speaking fondly about their time on the set.

Celebrities don’t shy away from singing the praises of the royals. Whether it’s gushing over the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, or excitedly anticipating the wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle prior to their big day, stars have royal fangirl moments too.

Many high-profile stars, including the Beckhams, Elton John, Lady Gaga, and Reese Witherspoon have been lucky enough to meet or perform with members of the British monarchy over the years. Some count the royal family as great friends and others freak out over their encounters.

Years before Emma Corrin was tapped to play Princess Diana on Netflix’s The Crown, they attended the royal wedding of Prince William and Duchess Kate in 2011, which began their royals’ fever. The My Policeman star recalled the events during a June 2021 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Corrin told the late-night host at the time that they weren’t always a “massive royal family person,” but things changed after attending the wedding. “I remember 10 years ago, I was 15, I was with my friend Katherine and we got very, very swept up in the royal wedding fever, I think probably because we were both very bored and very single,” the actor continued. “So we decided to go.”

In preparation for the big event at London’s Westminster Abbey, the two friends studied the royal couple’s love story by watching a “made for television” movie about the duo. While they weren’t on the guest list to step foot in the church, Corrin and their friend were just “so excited” to stand in the crowd and watch this special occasion from afar.

Television host James Corden has also been open about his friendship with the royals, and Prince Harry, in particular. The Peter Rabbit star was one of the celebrities that landed a coveted invite to the Invictus Games founder’s wedding to Meghan Markle in May 2018. Reliving the event on his late-night CBS talk show, Corden called the event “a picture-perfect day. Windsor Castle, 600 guests, 30,000 flowers — or as Elton John calls it, a Thursday.”

During the Late Late Show With James Corden segment, Corden further reflected on his friendship with Archie and Lili’s dad. “I’ve known Prince Harry about seven years now, and it was wonderful,” he said at the time. “It was one of the most beautiful ceremonies I’ve ever been to … It was happy, and it was joyous, it was uplifting . . . Elton was there; he performed some songs in the afternoon.”

While the two never met, it’s clear that they not only share a love for Prince Harry, but also for sleek silhouettes, stunning sparkles and laidback looks. 

Just like Duchess Kate, it was was obvious that Markle, 39, would take a style cue (or 11!) from Princess Diana from the second a ring was slipped on her finger. 

The Suits star’s bauble was designed with two diamonds from the late royal’s collection.

And while Markle always has the people’s princess’ memory on her finger, she’s also made a point to carry her legacy through with her fashion choices. 

One of the earliest comparisons of the two came to pass on The Bench author’s wedding day. Her sleek Stella McCartney evening wedding dress drew near-instant comparisons to a halter-neck white frock Princess Diana wore to a reception at Spencer House in 1992. 

After that, the look-a-like moments continued to flow. And while some were subtle references, others were outright twinning moments.

In 2018 for example, Markle stunned in a pastel pink Carolina Herrera dress. From the off-the-shoulder neckline to the standout buttons, royal style watchers were quick to point out that the number struck striking similarities to Princess Diana’s pink ballgown from 1987. 

The Archwell Audio host also seems to draw inspiration from her mother-in-law’s maternity style. 

For an engagement in 2019, while Markle was pregnant with son Archie, she stunned in a green dress with a matching Erdem coat. The coat, which was designed with a stunning black sequin appliqué, was obviously a nod to a coat Princess Diana wore while pregnant with Prince William in 1982. 

When it comes to casual wear, the actress frequently looks to the late royal for inspo, too. During the Invictus Games in Toronto in 2017, Markle rocked a simple white button down and light wash jeans that paralleled one of Diana’s outfits from 1997. 

Of course, there’s also their shared affinity for flowing floral frocks. Markle donned a stunning Oscar de la Renta gown in 2018 that bared a striking similarity to a Catherine Walker one the Princess of Wales wore during a visit to Saudi Arabia.

From old-school SNL veterans like Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray, to more recent stars such as Colin Jost and Pete Davidson, a ton of the late-night staple’s cast has met their significant others while working on the NBC show.

Akroyd fell in love with Carrie Fisher on the set of the Blues Brothers after initially meeting on the sketch comedy series. The pair later got engaged but called off the romance in 1980. Following the Stars Wars actress’ death in December 2016, the Ghostbusters actor penned a heartfelt tribute to Fisher.

“One of the most brilliant and hilarious minds of our eon, Carrie would say things like: ‘I love tiny babies. When they cry, they turn red and look like screaming tomatoes.’ OR ‘This romance is finished the second you let out even a threep. I’ll be sick for a year,’” he wrote in an essay for Empire magazine in January 2017. “AND ‘You have a jawline, hold your chin up otherwise you look like a tuna.’ From then on I would identify myself on the phone as Tuna Neck.”

Jost, for his part, was first linked to Scarlett Johansson in May 2017 after they were spotted at an SNL afterparty following the show’s season 42 finale. After getting engaged in May 2019, the Black Widow actress hosted the hit comedy series seven months later and gushed over her then-fiancé.

“This place means so much to me,” Johansson said at the time. “I have so many friends here, and I met the love of my life here.”

Nearly a year later, the lovebirds tied the knot in an intimate ceremony amid the coronavirus pandemic. Meals on Wheels announced the couple’s marriage in October 2020, via Instagram. “We’re thrilled to break the news that Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost were married over the weekend in an intimate ceremony with their immediate family and love ones,” the organization wrote.

While some SNL-born relationships have crashed and burned — including Fred Armisen and Elisabeth Moss and Jason Sudeikis and Olivia Wilde — others have remained unbreakable.

The Second Act star kept it real about her quest to find everlasting love while speaking with Harper’s Bazaar in January 2019. “For me, the relationship journey has been very up and down. But it didn’t have to do with anybody else but me — it was about me figuring out me. Until you learn to love yourself, you can’t completely love [someone else] in a way that is pure and true. Once you do that, you can have relationships that are based on love and respect, that are supportive and nourishing,” Lopez said. “There’s an evolution there that had to happen for me. I feel like I’m in a better place now.”

Lopez was previously married to Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998, Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003 and Marc Anthony — with whom she shares twins Max and Emme — from 2004 to 2014. She was also engaged to Affleck from 2002 to 2004 and Alex Rodriguez from 2019 to 2021.

Despite her history of divorce, the songstress revealed to Harper’s Bazaar in March 2018 that she had not given up on the possibility of finding forever love. “I do believe in marriage,” she said at the time. “And I would love to grow old with somebody in a committed relationship. But I’m not forcing anything right now.” She accepted Rodriguez’s proposal the following year, though the two split before getting married.

Lopez noted in January 2021 that part of her journey toward getting to know herself involved reflecting on her past romances. “I remember when I was going through therapy at the beginning, you know, kind of in my late 30s and there was a lot of talk about loving yourself and I was like, ‘I love myself,’” she recalled on Coach Conversations. “But obviously, I was doing all these things in, like, my personal relationships that didn’t seem like I was loving myself, but I didn’t even understand the concept of it. It took time and it’s a journey and it’s still a journey for me.”

True’s unique name was inspired by Kris Jenner’s grandfather and father. “I sometimes, still can’t believe im a mommy!!! True is the sweetest ever. I got my bestie for life! Thank you Jesus for my angel,” the Strong Looks Better Naked author wrote on May 29.

A year later, the reality star was even more obsessed with her baby girl. “Is it weird that I think I’m having anxiety thinking True will be one on Friday?!?!” she tweeted in April 2019. “I’m sad time is flying as fast as it is. I’ll be happy, of course, I simply can’t understand where the time goes. Thank you Lord for every moment. Bring me the tissue[s].”

“The nice list, of course! Only the nice list! It’s not bad if you don’t get caught,” Jonathan Scott teased while speaking to Us Weekly about his favorite holiday traditions.

For the Property Brothers star, his work off-camera is what he thinks helped land him on the positive side of Santa’s sleigh. “You know what? I think this year, I’m pretty excited that we’ve been able to do some things that I think are really good for people and really good for, you know, families,” he added, claiming that “Santa would be very proud” of what he and his twin, Drew Scott, accomplished for those in need.

Like the HGTV personality, Olivia Munn feels pretty good about where she stands with Santa this Christmas.

“I definitely don’t think I’d ever end up on a naughty list. But that’s mostly because I have a little more of a boring life just work, hanging out my dogs and go home and hanging out my friends,” the Newsroom alum joked. “It’s really hard to be naughty when you’re [boring].”

While some stars have channeled their energy into setting a good example, others have kept things playful. Leslie Odom Jr. told Us that he hasn’t been totally perfect — but that he’s simply trying his best.

“I’m a little bit of both! It’s all about balance in life,” the Tony winner said. “A little of naughty, a little bit of nice goes a long way.”

Padma Lakshmi, for her part, has her sights set on being a little more mischievous in the years to come after a solid streak on the nice list.

“I’ve been on the nice list, I’ve been good, following the rules,” the Taste the Nation host told Us. “But next year, I want to get myself on the naughty list.”
