Imagine having to follow Jennifer Lopez's footsteps.

That was the task at hand for Christian Serratos, The Walking Dead alum who's gearing up to star as Selena Quintanilla in Netflix's Selena: The Series. While the two-part show will kick things off with a focus on the late Tejano singer's childhood and her slow ascent to stardom, it's pretty tough not to think about Lopez's legendary Selena portrayal in the 1997 film that made her a household name.

So does J.Lo think no one else on the block can live up to that performance, or is she here for anything that celebrates Selena, the woman who remains so important to the Latinx community? In a new clip shared to various Netflix social media accounts, Lopez got real.

"Guys, I don't know if you've heard about this new Selena series on Netflix," Lopez said. "Playing Selena was kind of a landmark moment in my career and I was so excited when I saw the trailer and heard about it. It's a great way for this generation to get to know Selena. I love Selena. It's a big part of my life and my career. And I can't wait to see it. It's on Netflix. December 4."

Though it's not exactly a glowing endorsement, it's certainly nice to see her pass the baton and give someone else a shot.

So far, teaser and full-length trailers for the new show find Serratos as the spitting-image of Selena, especially when she slips on that bold red lip and signature high-waisted purple bodysuit.

       <g stroke="none" stroke-width="1" fill="none" fill-rule="evenodd"><g transform="translate(-511.000000, -20.000000)" fill="#000000"><g></g></g></g> View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Selena: The Series (@selenanetflix)

During the Wednesday, Nov. 25 episode of Red Table Talk: The Estefans, the iconic Cuban-American singer is joined by her sister, Rebecca Fajardo-Cabrera, niece, Lili Estefan, and daughter, Emily, to discuss what it's like to lose a loved one. Throughout the episode, they specifically recall saying goodbye to Gloria and Lili's mothers as Rebecca also opens up about suffering a miscarriage in her 40s.

"This Red Table Talk is dedicated to healing and finding strength," Gloria says. "Right now, I know millions of you are grieving the unbearable loss of a loved one, the heartbreaking end of a relationship, your home, your sense of safety."

In the exclusive clip below, Gloria shares that following the 2017 death of her mother, Gloria Fajardo, it was nearly impossible for her to return to music. "I couldn't record my album for over a year because mom was the powerful force, that little lady, she continues to be," Gloria says. Lili recalled that time too, telling Gloria, "It was very hard to cope. I've always seen you as strong. She can do anything, this woman, and for the first time she was like, ‘I can't sing.'"

Reflecting on Gloria's late mother, the woman who Emily considers "literally my best friend," Gloria also shared advice for anyone struggling. "Listen, everybody, open yourself up to the messages that your loved ones are giving you constantly," she says. "I believe, firmly, that there's a million ways and it's always gonna be in a way that only you would know and only you would recognize. They have gotten us through the toughest moments of our lives even when they've been gone."

Elsewhere in the episode, the group discuss just how stubborn Gloria's mother was in certain moments. "I knew that she couldn't help it sometimes," she says, "and one day she came close to an apology by saying to me, in a rage, because you know she'd be enraged in a split second, she said to me, ‘I don't know why I do these things. I don't know why I can't control myself or say what I'm feeling.' And I took it as an apology."

Ultimately, it's the memory of the strong, powerful matriarch they grew up with that brings Gloria joy. "Mom was such a huge presence," she says. "She sang beautifully, she was gorgeous, she looked like Liz Taylor. No matter what she was doing, she was dressed and made up to the nines."

Red Table Talk: The Estefans airs every Wednesday at 12 p.m. ET on Facebook Watch.

Author:Jonathan Borge - Source: E Online

If so, Tayshia Adams is right there with you.

During Monday night's Dancing With the Stars finale, ABC aired a sneak peek at what's to come for the rest of her season as The Bachelorette and the clip hints at more "shocking surprises," bombshell accusations, plenty of confusion and tear after tear. In fact, Tayshia's dad joins in, telling her he's worried she's making the "biggest mistake" of her life. Oof. No pressure!

And while that seconds-long preview got us excited, it's the second half of the clip that left us absolutely distracted. Why, you ask? Well, it opens with a very-up-close shot of The Bachelor Matt James as he takes a very slow, deliberate, romance-novel-style outdoor shower before the camera.

"Love for me is about the heart, and the way that I view life, everything is a blessing," he says in the video. Throughout, we see Matt's lineup of ladies kiss the star as they call him "tall, dark and handsome" and "the most handsome man I've ever seen." One woman took it so far as to say, "He just keeps getting hotter.
Roughly two weeks after the Oct. 23 premiere of The Queen's Gambit on Netflix, I raised the following question on Instagram Stories: Do I really need to watch this chess show? Back then, my feed was packed with photos and memes of a red-haired Anya Taylor-Joy obsessing over whether her character, Beth Harmon, should use the Scandanavian Defense or shake her opponent's hand and say, "I resign."

I know nothing about chess and, until recently, had zero intention of ever caring about the game. Why watch a show about something so, how do you say, boring? But within seconds of polling my friends, my DMs were flooded (by my measly following's standards, that is) with definitive "yeses" and the same, unanimous message: The Queen's Gambit is an absolute must-watch.

So I caved, quickly binging one episode after the next and surprising myself at just how much I've learned to care about Taylor-Joy's Beth and all the wonderful cast members she outshines. In this journey, I know I'm not alone. Just this week, Netflix announced that The Queen's Gambit shattered viewership records by becoming the streaming service's biggest scripted limited series to date after 62 million households tuned in within 28 days. That's a lot of people, and a lot of chess.

So what is it about the series that's so addicting? Based on Walter Tevis' 1983 novel of the same name, The Queen's Gambit is essentially about an orphan who develops refined chess skills that takes her all across the globe and leave her with plenty of emotional and psychological scars. Vague, but accurate.

Netflix
As Vulture recently pointed out, the show follows the glamorous, sexy and highly-stylized storytelling approach familiar to fans of Mad Men and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Yes, the '60s fashion is fantastic and the set design is so good it'll make you consider taking on a DIY wallpaper project. The looks of the show are worthy of praise.

But I can trim down my obsession to three main categories. First, it is incredibly refreshing to see Beth, a fierce and feminist female lead in a male-dominated world, completely exercise control over her opponents' egos—even when she sometimes loses at a game she's so passionate about. Her relationship with drugs and alcohol is presented in a rock 'n' roll manner that Hollywood often doesn't let women explore. Plus, anyone like me who loved Taylor-Joy's performances in The Witch and Split will be delighted. (Feel free to get lost in the videos of her speaking flawless Spanish).

The second category is Beth's mother, Mrs. Alma Wheatley, played by The Diary of a Teenage Girl alum Marielle Heller. Throughout, the show's writers give us a complex mother-daughter relationship that keeps you guessing yet ultimately (and strangely) warms your heart. No spoilers, but episode four, "Middle Game," in which Beth and Mrs. Wheatley travel to Mexico City together, is my absolute favorite.

Trending Stories
1
How Khloe Kardashian Feels About Tristan Thompson’s Move to Celtics
2Exclusive
Tiffany Haddish Reveals the "Bad Habit" She's Hiding From Common
3
Below Deck Med's Hannah Ferrier Is Engaged: See Her Ring

Netflix
Lastly, and arguably most importantly, the series is full of eye candy in the form of actors Harry Melling, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Marcin Dorociński and twins Matthew and Russell Dennis Lewis. The sweetest of them all, in my opinion, is Jacob Fortune-LLoyd, who plays an opponent and journalist named Townes.

Unlike Netflix series you can leave on in the background and return to without missing a twist, The Queen's Gambit is best enjoyed with a massive bowl of popcorn and your eyes hooked exclusively on the screen. Ranked the number one Netflix show in 63 countries, from Argentina to South Africa, it offers a rare reason to collectively come together to set aside our differences and instead focus on the trivialities of Beth's next move.

Rather than zip right through all seven episodes overnight, I've waited several days to watch the very last, letting the magic that Taylor-Joy brought to life marinate before I officially say goodbye to what's already being labeled one of 2020's best TV shows. Considering millions of people already know how it ends, it certainly sounds well worth the wait.

Author:Jonathan Borge - Source: E Online

On Monday, Nov. 23, MTV announced a Ridiculousness spinoff devoted to all things food. Just like the original series, Deliciousness will feature viral internet videos that'll have you laughing out loud and wondering how people failed so epically. Set to premiere on Dec. 14, the series will be hosted by Saved by the Bell alum Tiffani Thiessen, who knows a thing or two about good food as the author of Pull Up a Chair and host of the Cooking Channel's Dinner at Tiffani's.

In addition, she'll be joined by three panelists: Angela Kinsey (The Office), Kel Mitchell (All That, Kenan & Kel) and Tim Chantarangsu (Basic to Bougie). The official description for the new series reads as follows: "From food blunders to restaurant fails to kids in the kitchen and more, Deliciousness celebrates our greatest indulgences—food and drink. Helping to satisfy the foodie in all of us, each episode will showcase the internet's most viral and entertaining videos."

A new promo for the show finds Thiessen and the panelists teasing all the eye candy to come. "The only thing that people love more than delicious food is delicious food fails," a voiceover says as clips flash of a woman dropping an entire fresh-out-the-oven turkey and a man literally nose-diving into a Thanksgiving dinner table.

Trending Stories
1Exclusive
Tiffany Haddish Reveals the "Bad Habit" She's Hiding From Common
2
Carrie Underwood and John Legend Team Up for Christmas Music Video
3
Megan Thee Stallion Promotes Self-Love With 2020 AMAs Performance

The premiere of Deliciousness also marks the start of a one week holiday-themed MTV event from Dec. 14 to 18. Earlier this month, MTV announced the Dec. 9 premiere of The Challenge, which is returning for season 36.
In October, Netflix confirmed the cancelation of Glow despite having previously renewed the series for season four back in 2019. The reason? COVID-19. As a Netflix spokesperson said at the time, the virus "makes shooting this physically intimate show with its large ensemble cast especially challenging."

The cancelation left Glow with a ton of unexplored and open-ended storylines, which have some fans hoping for a full-length film as the ultimate sendoff. During a recent interview with The Playlist's The Fourth Wall podcast, Brie, 37, revealed that she's totally onboard for that idea.

"I certainly think a movie could tie everything up," she said. "Our creators, Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, are incredible writers. And they're so devoted to these characters that they created. I think a movie would be a great way to wrap it up."

Though Brie certainly sounded enthusiastic about the prospect, she's not so certain it'll come to life—at least not soon. "I'm a little pessimistic about it actually happening just in light of everything that's gone on this year and how difficult it is to get anything back into production with COVID," she said, adding that the cast of Community has tried to get a movie off the ground for six years.

Brie said, "So what I'm saying is don't hold your breath because if it does happen, it might take a minute."

Just like loyal Glow viewers, Brie also hates that the series had to come to an end. "It's definitely a bummer," she said. "I'm going to miss playing with those incredible women and Marc Maron and Chris Lowell. But you know, we're so lucky. We're lucky that we got to make three, to me, perfect seasons of a show. I love it so much and it will live on Netflix forever. So people can still check it out."

Netflix
Following news of the cancelation, Flahive and Mensch encouraged fans to consider the bigger picture. "COVID has killed actual humans," they wrote in a joint statement. "It's a national tragedy and should be our focus. COVID also apparently took down our show. Netflix has decided not to finish filming the final season of Glow."

They added, "There's a lot of s--tty things happening in the world that are much bigger than this right now. But it still sucks that we don't get to see these 15 women in a frame together again. We'll miss our cast of weirdo clowns and our heroic crew. It was the best job. Register to vote.
